Inspiration is for amateurs

I hadn't seen the ocean in what it feels like ages, it's so nice to be here I came here today to spend the day, I'm going to be doing photography the whole day, hopefully and even though now that I'm here next to this beautiful lighthouse and these amazing cliffs, and the coast I am feeling inspired and I'm feeling like taking photos and making images that was not the case earlier today… You see, I woke up at 4:30am and then I drove a little bit over 2 hours to get here early enough so I'd have enough time It's not easy, at least for me, to wake up at 4:30am it's not easy to feel inspired at that time when you are so tired On these kind of trips, more often than not, I have to push myself to get out of bed and get in the car Many people have said this over time but I couldn't agree more: we shouldn't wait for inspiration to come, we have to take action In my opinion, we don't take photos because we are inspired, but the other way around: we are inspired because we take photos Even though waking up so early and driving for so long is not my favorite thing to do early in the morning it is always, always worth it, this is so beautiful I am so glad that I came here It just started raining out of nowhere I'm soaked I'm trying to dry my jacket here now that the Sun is out, but it's completely soaked it'll take hours thing is, when the Sun goes away, I am cold because I'm all wet so I hope that that rain didn't ruin my day here at the coast I'm going to be visiting more spots around here but I really need my jacket I don't have more clothes and I'm always saying that I should've a spare outfit: pants, socks, t-shirts and jacket, another pair of shoes…

In the car, just in case this happens, of course, I don't have more clothes I did have my running shoes, though, so that's something I've shared this tip before but it's something that I find really useful for my photography I've been doing this for a long time, for years now: every time I go on a photography trip like this one I try to start taking photos as soon as possible, very early on on the day sometimes even before leaving home, of myself getting ready, of my breakfast, whatever it is I keep shooting during the whole day along with the images that I make that you see in these videos or that I share on Instagram or my website and these snapshots along with the videos that I record help me to stay engaged during the whole day This is along the lines of what we talked about earlier, it is not creativity that drives the work but it's the work that drives creativity and by taking these snapshots and recording these videos I stay engaged the whole day I stay open for inspiration to come whenever it wants to come, if it ever does I don't think there is a secret to becoming a great photographer other than doing this over and over I think it's by being consistent, by going through a volume of work, by showing up day after day that is that we can put ourselves on the right path to becoming, you know, a good photographer a good artist for that matter Many times, hopefully most of the time, we're going to feel excited about getting out and making images that'd be amazing Just be aware that sometimes you might not feel like getting out here and making images And that's okay! Every photographer feels the same way sometimes It is important, though, that you push yourself just a little bit and try to get out here and make some great art As I said a couple videos ago, if you don't get to make a good image for any reason, that is still okay because getting out here is going to make it easier for us to get out tomorrow You see, I was very rusty after the quarantine, I was out of shape photographically speaking so it was very hard for me to get out here, but tomorrow, if I wanted to come back here, or go on another photography trip it's going to be easier because I'm getting in the rhythm of just getting out and taking photos it gets easier, much easier, so that's
why it's also very important to get out I just wanted to share 2 more things The first one is that we can find inspiration in many other ways: for example, I found inspiration by looking at other people's work by reading, by watching YouTube videos! I found the work of other youtubers very inspiring This is along the lines of what we've been talking about: it's about feeding our minds with something Today, in my case, is about being out here with all this nature and with all this beautiful coast but it could be done from home with, as I said, books, videos, or whatever It's all about letting our mind be creative, to be free to create something The second one is that even though I encourage you to get out and to explore we are living through a global pandemic right now, so please follow the local laws follow the laws of your country I was in lockdown for more than 2 months and it's just now when the restrictions have started to lift I'm allowed to be here, so if you are allowed to do the same, if you are allowed to come to places like these to go on a walk, please do so, but if you're not, please stay home All right, so I've been exploring for almost 12 hours around here, I'm pretty tired, I still have to drive back home so I'm calling it a day Thank you so much for watching, and see
you in the next one!
