Film photography is easy. You don’t need any knowledge to start

Hello everyone! Welcome back to
my channel! My name is Maryna   and today I wanted to show you some
of my photos that I took back in 2018 With this camera, this is a Zenit 12 xp
This was like the cheapest camera that   I was able to find on the internet So the reason why I'm doing this video is because
I want to encourage more people to shoot film  Because this is a really fun hobby,
it's a little bit expensive but it's fun   and I just feel like a lot of people are afraid
of analog film because they feel like they   you know, they can't shoot, they will mess up
everything, all the photos will be blurry and   they think it's really hard to shoot film,
and it's actually not, so I just wanted to   show you my first photos that I just took without
any experience, I just looked up a tutorial on the   internet of how to load the film into the camera
and I started shooting and these were my results  They are not great of course, and these
photos are a little bit basic, and some   of them are underexposed or overexposed
but most of them are fine, you know,   they are okay, and it's a good start, so, if I
never had experience with this and I was able   to take photos, then you should be able to do
it too, so as I, said you don't really need   any knowledge about photography to shoot film,
because these cameras they were designed for   common people, people without any knowledge,
this camera is pretty basic and it was   designed so you can take it, load the film,
and take photos of your vacations, this is   not a professional camera, so everybody can use it
In this video I will not be covering the technical   part of shooting film, this is like a motivational
video for people that are kind of curious about   this but they don't really know and they
are afraid, so I just want to encourage you What to not expect from your first photoshoot?
Don't expect to get a photo that is like one of   those photos that you see on Instagram with, you
know, cool lights and fog and stuff like that,   you will not be able to do that and that's because
behind that photo there's expensive equipment,   there's sometimes a crew of people, so yeah,
don't expect that, and don't be disappointed   if your photos are you know are okay, it's
okay, it's your first roll, you're starting,   you have to explore, you have to experiment before
you can find your own language with the camera.

So   just don't expect perfection because you will
not get it, this is all about experimentation. What to expect from your first photoshoot? You
have to expect blurry photos, yes, probably you   will not be able to focus on some photos because
that's a skill that I haven't mastered yet,   so it can happen that some of your photos
are blurry because you didn't focus correctly   or because your hands were shaky, that's okay, you
have to learn for the next time, like how to avoid   shaky hands using a tripod and stuff like that so
really don't expect perfection also, expect over   or underexposed photos, if your camera doesn't
have a light meter, that can happen, this camera   has a broken light meter and I was shooting
without the light meter, you know just   putting whatever I was feeling here and it
worked! Some photos they were underexposed   but because I took some photos in the night and
the film I was using was not designed for that   but it's a good learning, you learn from those
mistakes, and it's okay, learning to shoot film   is a process, and it's a very slow process
because you can't just take 1000 pictures  Well you can if you are a millionaire, I am not
It's a really slow process so   don't expect like you know, let's
be realistic and it's all about   film photography is all about the process in
my opinion, it's all about your expression,   about what you feel, about what you see,
about what you want to show to the world.   Don't copy stuff from the internet, like you see
a nice picture on the Instagram, and you copy tha,   try to not to do that, try to show what you want
to show, what you feel, what your soul feels,   It's a very personal process
Looking at   photos from other photographers is okay, but try
to make your own path don't just copy mindlessly  It's all about experimentation and that's
where you are having the most fun, when you're   experimenting, just avoid comparing yourself to
other photographers that you see on Instagram Everybody has a story and everybody tells
their own story from a different point of view   and, for example, I love some of the
portrait photographers but I myself   I'm not a really good portrait photographer,
but that's because I'm not a social person,   I don't know how to act around people, so it makes
sense that i'm not good with portrait photography Instead I really love nature, I
love architecture, so I try to   shoot what i'm interested in, and I think that's
what you should do too, you should just focus on   what you are interested because if you are
going to some places that you are not very   comfortable with, as a beginner that's I don't
know I don't think it will give you good results  Of course you can try, but don't
be sad if it doesn't go well.  Also try to avoid people that talk about the
gear.

I don't know how to pronounce that word.  You know, just those people that are obsessed with
lenses and cameras and stuff like that, because   as a beginner, you don't have to worry about
that, you have to worry about that later, maybe,   not always, I mean, I follow one photographer
on twitter, and once she said like: "I don't   understand anything about my camera, I just
taking photos" and her photos are really good,   and that person she has a normal camera,
and she's not worried about lenses and   stuff like that, and her photography is still good
You don't have to really care about that, at least   at the beginning, so every time you see someone
saying something about lenses and stuff like that,   just avoid those people, and in my opinion they
tend to be really toxic, so you know, be careful.  Something you have to do, is to experience
that excitement when you get your first roll   from the lab, and you look at those photos for
the first time, and you say "Wow, I did it! I   took these photos!" that's something that you will
remember forever, your first roll of film that you   get from the lab, that's like the
most amazing experience you can get In conclusion, I encourage you to go
and get the cheapest camera that you can   buy on the internet, go and get the cheapest
roll that you have, that you can get, and   just go outside or even you can
take photos inside, and go and take   photos of whatever you like, whatever makes you
feel passionate, whatever speaks to your soul,   basically it's all about you and your vision.
Think about only that, and and take photos   about that, that's all you have to do
and I promise you, you will have fun  So yeah I think that's that's all, just don't
think much about it, don't think about perfection,   you will love your first photos because
even if they are blurry or whatever,   you will love them because it's kind of like magic So I hope this video helped
you and encouraged you and   thank you thank for watching and please
leave a like and see you next time! Bye!
