Justifying buying the Olympus 100-400mm f5.0 – 6.3

Well this is it's huge well it's huge in the micro four thirds since then I'm used to having the micro four thirds I've never had that ever full frame so when I bought this I'm like oh my god it freaked me out and I think it's a little bit overwhelming um a little bit A little bit but then maybe when you put the lens hood on you I know it's a little bit confusing when you think about it coming from uh small lenses with the micro four to grab this but remember it's 800 mm equivalent of that compared to the big cannons that you get on the cannon it's very small compared to With which – which so how do you feel it feels achievable you know I mean I had a 300mm lens from the 70s and that was pretty heavy and this one is actually very light and it's 100 to 400 so it has a really good balance with the em1 mark with the em1 mark ii [music] The image stabilization is just really great.

You've got the lens image stabilization and obviously you also marry it with the in-camera image stabilization and it says they work together and a lot of people on YouTube have tested it and think it doesn't really matter which one you use but you might as well just leave them both in the same Time there's no harm in not having it hurts stability so and they come up with the training [music] tuck your arms in all right yet the really main thing with this is that because at 6.3 wide the end of stabilization that shutter speeds will drop at all high isos which is fair enough It's not a professional lens so you wouldn't go for the lower aperture but that's fine as long as you can steady yourself and the stabilization is good anyway and you can handle it you can live with high ISO if you run it through dxo or what ever you can live with 6400 iso I don't mind 6400 part iso but it's really the stability now there's some stuff I've seen on the internet I think there's a guy called Rob Knight and he shows you some tricks that you can do well one trick um when you go like that and you turn your head and you're good rested On the collarbone there but I can't get it like the collarbone that means that's silly so you might have to more information on the shoulder try to bend your arms a little bit like this you know like uh you know like the genie you know, turn it on first yeah he also said the rising thing Here it moves it to say like 10 o'clock there so it's 10 o'clock and this now you get a bigger grip now more ideally most of the time you're going to shoot like this if the shutter speed is too high you can get away with it and the step like I said the stability is unreal you're not going to have any Problems with it with stability like this trick then is the comfort there now you have to be a fool it finally came in handy because I'm a shot I close my right eye most people close their left eye then look at it through my right eye but I closed my left eye this actually pays off because the way The only one to do this is you can't I mean you can but you 'll know it'll cause uh you'll break your neck so far I've been practicing a little bit it's pretty good actually it's really stable yeah it's almost like that the tripod is a good little style and if you get your feet right And you plant it right yeah the stabilizer does 90 of the work anyway so I'm about 12 feet from here actually I refuse you to stay there no Jerry stays there okay Jerry let's take a look at the birds and then okay that's shutter speed 1000 obviously That f 6.3 because I'm at the widest end at 400 mm all right so the real test things are far away so let's try and zoom in if you're too far away obviously you're not I 'll take shots like that maybe I can crop it there's a beauty that snuck up on Jerry there on her face uh Now the beauty of it is you can zoom in/out to 100 find your target and then zoom in instead of zooming in you have a 300 millimeter professional 300 millimeters always and you know you're going like this where the hell is Well, you see, I'm a little bit overwhelmed buying such an item Expensive because I do n't think I'm ready but if I don't have you you'll never………..

You'll never know and you'll never do it train even I'm used to it smaller things and that scene when I first got it it looked like Like you [__] you know this is big this is we're in the big league now because I was really thinking I should have got 75 to 300 which is small and I'm used to this size you know I think it's the same thing a little bit bigger than the other 150 you know so I but I thought why No if I wanted to get into it and I'm going to practice now I think the main reason also didn't go with the 75 to the 300 because I had an idea when I was tripping over this old crappy uh giant from the 80s and this 300 millimeter so I thought and I took some good shots and I cropped in and everything but I think You know what let's go to the extra 100 you know millimeter and you get one 400 so that's why another reason I felt the need for that extra stretch now in hindsight again when I look at the zoo photos that I did they were at 150 and they converted that well into cropping it In what you know a lot of them some of them I didn't even crop in but the ones that I had cropped heavily turned out all right so you can get away with 150 maybe you're even spending your money on 40 to 150 professional and obviously you know the cheaper alternative 75 to 300 does the trick for amateurs Like me um I guess I'm just trying to justify why you bought it Jay why did you buy this thing you don't want you understand anyway now the alternative to this 300 pro as you mentioned apparently this is the best lens ever the other alternative is to get that twelve thousand dollars 150 to 400 yeah please you know I'm not going to spend 12.

I mean I spent 1600 on this I could have gotten one m select three for that for that but maybe for one thousand one hundred dollars when my my cryptocurrency when my shibuno reaches one dollar I'll be able to afford that if That was going in and I'll be able to buy the jlp and then bring it back to Olympus so you'll see me with this every now and then that's the other thing I actually do n't know if I'll use it a lot or not I mean a lot of my photography is based around Jerry and the parks and you know tells the story of this More specific you know what I mean sports wild animals that's about it um Jerry wants to see the camera even Jerry likes it anyway thanks for watching I'll still go out and have adventures with Jerry it's just that I've added something new to my arsenal Joe wants to go hunt birds let's go To catch birds okay thanks for watching I'll catch you the next one
