7 Things for the Amateur Landscape Photographers to Do During Lockdown

Hello there and welcome to the new
normal. Yes, I'm a few weeks too late with this
video but considering a few countries are already experiencing a second wave
of "the situation" what I'm talking about might unfortunately be relevant in a
couple of weeks again. I consider myself one of the lucky ones. In Switzerland we're still allowed to go outside as long as it's in groups under five people so
luckily for me running and biking hasn't been off the table as of yet.

But this
whole situation has left a lot of people very bored and that group definitely
includes us amateur photographers. Especially in countries where you are basically banned from going outside to do anything but shopping for groceries. To help pass
the time I've thrown together a little list of things to do without leaving the
comfort or safety of your own four balls because after all that is why we are
doing this whole thing. To keep yourself and others safe. Oh and by the way if
you've made it this far and you've been thinking about leaving a clever comment
about how I'm an idiot or believing the "liberal media" and their lies, just don't. Your comment will be removed. Because to put it bluntly you are the
idiot. The situation we're in is serious so please don't mingle in groups, don't
go outside, stay at home and for God's sakes leave those 5g towers alone.
Staying at home isn't a big ask if you think of it, is it now really? Right, let's
get on with this list.

If you haven't already it's about time you gave all of
your gear a good old clean make sure your sensor and lenses are in pristine
condition because at some point all of this will be over and you will be able
to go out and do your photography again. And I know I'd be angry at myself if my
gear wasn't ready for that point in time. And while you're at it why not give the
gear that isn't directly linked to your photography some love – I'm talking mice,
monitors, keyboards, external controllers, anything that is on your desk. And while
you're at it why not clean your whole desk. Look up guides on how to
open up your laptop and remove all of the dust that is certain to be stuck in
the fans. If you don't exit this lockdown with better running gear than you
entered it I think you've done something wrong. I can tell you that our flat has
not been as clean as it is today since probably the day we moved in.

You
know those old photos you're too embarrassed to show anyone because they don't really look very good? well maybe it's not the photo that was bad but the editing. Go over your old photographs and edit them with all of the new knowledge
you've gained since you took the original photo. And if you're out of old
photos go and look for raw files online and edit those. Based on my viewing figures I know a lot of you were interested in this little thing my Loupedeck alternative. If you happen to have gotten yourself one of these well now's
the time to learn how to use it. Many of you will have also bought something like
this here a Wacom graphic tablet and probably you've just installed the
drivers and left everything as it is. Well now's the time to start editing
what the buttons do on your graphic tablet and just make it suit your
workflow. What I'm trying to get at here is that by going into the software editing
those default settings you can get these devices working the way you want it to
and not the other way around.

Surely the first thing every single one
of you did upon buying a new camera is read the manual cover to cover you wouldn't just take your brand new camera out and head for the mountains to take
photographs would you know you'd always read the manual first. If you didn't
happen to notice that I was being rather sarcastic obviously the least of us have
actually read the full manual of our camera.

Well now you've got time to do it
who knows you might learn something new, something that can help you going
forward about your camera. It feels like my complaints about the
Drobo 5D3 were an eternity ago. You want to know why? I finally plucked up
the courage and sold it. If you have old and unused gear just laying around collecting dust maybe now's the time to get rid of it. And with the coming recession I think we probably all could do with a bit of
money on the side. I've found that getting rid of such superfluous gear has lifted
quite a weight off my shoulders and with noise machine number 2 being born soon
I'm also happy to have reclaimed some space in my flat.
I might be mentioning this one out of self-interest but if you haven't already maybe now's the time to
build your own website. Of course I've got a handy little guide on how to do
that. And if you don't want to pay any hosting fees you can download something like xampp or x-ampp, I'm never sure how to pronounce it and just start building
your own website on your local computer.

Just give it a quick google and I'm sure
you'll find a good guide on how to set that up.
And finally why not start a
YouTube channel. If you're watching this video as an amateur photographer, you've
basically already got all of the gear you need. And if you don't have a decent
camera to record video your phone will do. Think of something you're good at and just hit that record button. If you don't have any editing software you can
actually download DaVinci Resolve for free.

Here's an idea you can have for
free we talked about editing old photos so why not download OBS studio, which
will allow you to record your own screen, and start editing your own photos? You
can talk about what went wrong in the first place and what you're doing now to
correct those errors. On a more somber note don't let this
whole situation get to you. Make sure you stay physically as well as
mentally healthy. Read the news once, maybe twice, a day. You won't make yourself feel any better by being bombarded with negative
headlines. And of course always be wary of what you read and please don't set
fire to 5G masts.

If you are struggling with this whole situation there are
places that can help you out. And there you have it just a few ideas on what you
could do with any extra time you happen to have on your hands. If you like this video please remember to give it a like and maybe subscribe to
my channel. Alright that's enough for me for one day I'll see you in the next one.
Bye..
